Upgrade Options for CIES 2022
If you would like to switch your registration from virtual TO ONSITE, head over to the CIES 2022 registration page and upgrade your registration! Your upgrade will be based on the difference between the virtual and onsite rates but it will also be based on when you first registered. If you took advantage of the early bird rates for registration, you will only pay the difference between virtual and onsite based on the registration costs at the time of your initial registration!
WHO MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE?
Everyone! Conference attendance registration is required for all attendees and participants (presenters, discussants, chairs, etc.).
WHO MUST ALSO BE REGISTERED AS A 2022 CIES MEMBER?
2022 CIES calendar year membership is required for all participants (presenters, discussants, chairs, etc.) who are named in the program.

BEFORE YOU REGISTER:
Be Prepared!
If you are presenting you are required to join or renew your CIES 2022 membership first. When you have completed that, you can register to attend the conference. If you are not presenting, you can still register to attend, but you will have to select the non-member rates for registration.
To qualify for CIES 2022 conference rates for MEMBERS you must join or renew your membership BEFORE you register for the conference.
If you are only attending the CIES 2022 conference and do not want or require a CIES 2022 membership, you can skip this step and register to attend the conference starting February 1, 2022.
REGISTRATION
CIES 2022 will be a hybrid conference. We are offering a variety of ways to engage in sessions, including on site, virtual pajama panels, plenary events, book launches, posters, coffee breaks, receptions, the annual Film Festivalette, business meetings, and many other events, creating an exciting conference experience.

The CIES 2022 conference rates are below. Review the rates that might apply to you. .
Review the rates carefully! CIES 2022 is a hybrid conference and there are varying rates depending on whether you plan to attend on site in Minneapolis or virtually. In addition, we have an early bird period before conference registration rates go up, so register early to take advantage of the discount. Finally, CIES offers different rates for members and non-members as well as a discounted rate for people who might be from a low-income country.
Important Dates
February 21, 2022: All participants who are named in the program (presenters, discussants, chairs, etc.) must join or renew their 2022 CIES membership and register for the conference on or before February 21, 2022.
February 22, 2022: Anyone who is named in the program but did not join or renew their 2022 CIES membership and/or register for the conference will be dropped from the program.
March 31, 2022: Deadline for all CIES2022 participants and attendees to request a registration refund if switching from onsite to virtual. No adjustments accepted after March 31, 2022.
Upgrades in registration from virtual to onsite will be accepted through April 22, 2022.
April 18, 2022: Attendees (non-participants) can register by April 18, 2022 to attend the conference (in person or virtual).
ELIGIBILITY FOR CIES MEMBER RATES
The CIES membership system is linked to the 2022 Conference Registration system. This allows you to register for the rate that you qualify for. To access the membership rate, please update your membership prior to registering to attend the CIES 2022 conference.
MEMBERS AND STUDENT MEMBERS
To be eligible for registration at CIES Member rates, you must be a current member of CIES for the 2022 calendar year. To qualify for the student rate you must currently be an enrolled student.
EMERITUS MEMBERS
To be eligible for registration at CIES Emeritus Member rates, you must have approved Emeritus Member status for your current CIES membership. This requires (1) being aged 65 or older, (2) retired or not working full-time, and (3) having been a member of CIES for at least 10 consecutive years; all three requirements must be met in order to receive the discounted rate.
MEMBERS AND STUDENT MEMBERS FROM LOW INCOME COUNTRIES
To be eligible for registration at Low Income or Lower-Middle Income Countries CIES Member rates, you (1) must have residency in, (2) must be currently living in, and (3) must be a citizen of a qualifying country. All three requirements must be met in order to receive the discounted rate. Please note that CIES uses World Bank classifications for 2022 to identify qualifying countries, such that registrants from all “low-income” or “lower-middle-income economies” are eligible for discounted registration rates.
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS
Pre-conference Workshops will be held both on site and virtually on Monday, April 18, 2022. Workshops offer a space for conference attendees to engage with experts on important issues and questions related to research, policy, and practice in comparative and international education.
Capacity is limited and registration is required. The registration fee for pre-conference workshops is a flat rate of $55 USD. Attendees can participate in one or two separate 3-hour workshops (morning & afternoon sessions) or one extended 6-hour workshop (a full day session). If you are attending on site, you can also participate in a virtual workshop. Virtual attendees can only participate in virtual workshops.

Covid-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS
In the interests of protecting the health of our community and our host city, CIES 2022 will be implementing Covid-19 safety protocols into all components of the in-person conference.
- Vaccination cards will be required at check-in.
- Masks must be worn at all times while on-site.
- Concurrent sessions will be arranged in classroom-style formation to promote social distancing
- Sessions that use round tables will seat smaller groups to allow participants to social distance.

CANCELLATIONS
Cancellation requests must be made in writing no later than March 17, 2022, to be eligible for a refund. Refunds will incur a $35 USD cancellation charge, which will be deducted from the refundable amount due. For individuals registered at Low Income or Lower-Middle Income Country rates, this cancellation fee will be waived if the request is received by March 17, 2022. Refunds will be issued in the same form in which they were received. In the case where a refund by wire transfer is necessary, a $20 wire fee will be withheld from the amount of the refund. No refunds will be issued after March 17, 2022.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Gift Registrations are very much appreciated, especially during these challenging times!
- New for CIES 2022! – hard copies of the 2022 CIES Conference Program will be available for advance purchase through an online on-demand print retailer. You will pay online and have it delivered to your home or office. Hard copies will not be available for purchase in Minneapolis. More information is forthcoming, including how to purchase.
- The 2022 CIES Conference Program will also be available as a free PDF for download, and online through All Academic.
- The travel visa letter for 2022 will be provided with your decision letter for those who submitted a proposal. You can also access the visa letter via the All Academic email you received if your conference proposal was accepted or rejected. For others, the letter is available via request. Please write to cies2022@cies.us with Require Visa Letter in the subject line.
- Conference Participation Certificates will be mailed upon request to presenters after the conference.
