Performance by Oshkii Giizhik Singers

CIES is thrilled to welcome the Oshkii Giizhik Singers.  The group will hold a performance at the opening of the conference Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 8:00 AM.

Oshkii Giizhik Singers are Anishinaabe Ikwewag from the Fond du Lac Reservation and surrounding areas. Lyz Jaakola, had a dream about women’s voices spreading blue healing sound waves out over their families and communities. This dream became reality in 2006 as the “FDL Area Women’s Hand Drum Group” assembled and eventually became Oshkii Giizhik Singers (OGS).

OGS recorded their first CD, “It’s a New Day” in 2009. The 3rd track, “Anishinaabekwe”, received the Native American Music Award for “Best Traditional Recording” which was a huge honor for the singers. Their 2nd CD “It’s a New Day for Love” (2011) is a collection of love songs old & new while “Anishinaabekwe Inendamowin” is a celebration of 100 year old songs rematriated in 2019. OGS is called to perform for various events in their community and as musical Ambassadors in performances such as this.
